Ever since my cherubs were born and getting their first teeth, I have observed the S-L-O-W nature at which their teeth appear in their sweet little mouths. (Some book I read back in the day stated that babies only “teeth” for 2 days…HOG WASH!!) Sooooo, Tyler hits Kindergarten and starts wondering when whe will loose his first tooth. There is a chart to track the class in his room. There is talk of the tooth fairy (which doesn’t come to our house, we give the kids money for their teeth). And Kindergarten ends and that is that. (sigh) First grade starts and wouldn’t ya know, there is more class room record keeping of teeth lost by classmates. (sigh) Because Tyler is young for his grade, there are no loose teeth on the horizon. But 2 6-yr molars come in in Feb. so there is a glimmer of hope. **Then** 1 week before Tyler is 7….the first loose tooth! Hooray!!! It stays loose for all of April and May! A second loose tooth joins in. Cool. But then we notice that the adult teeth are erupting behind the baby teeth so the loose teeth are just leaning further forward all the time. Sick of it all (and listening to plenty of people offer to yank his teeth out), Tyler decides on 6/2/12 to just rip the loosest tooth out of his jaw. This is our mild mannered, quiet, thoughtful, sensitive young lad who decided to remind us of this strength, courage, and will power. He just yanked it out with out much fanfare, kept his calm, and smiled through the bloody parts of the event. You see, that tooth had a HUGE root on the front side of the tooth keeping that sucker in. ……….. And then, about 3 hrs later, he did it again to the other tooth (another long root mind you!). Hip Hip Hooray! Gosh, all he wanted to do to celebrate was to call his BFF on the phone. Then, he made sure that I documented/photographed everything…..Ah, he knows his mama well! 🙂 Another cool thing is that he FINALLY got on that class chart one week before the school year was over!
Atta Boy!!
